In the Netherlands, public transport is very well organised. It is a good way to commute to work. 

Reliable networks 

In the Netherlands, you can easily travel by train, bus, tram and metro. These are reliable forms of transport and run frequently. The train is convenient if you want to travel a longer distance quickly. You can use the bus, tram and metro to commute to work if you live in or near the same town or city. 

Paying with an OV chipkaart or bank card 

If you want to travel by public transport, you can use an OV chipkaart or your bank card. You check in at the start of your journey and check out at the end. The cost depends on how far you travel and when you travel. For example, the train costs more at peak times, which are from 6.30 a.m. to 9 a.m. and from 4 p.m. to 6.30 p.m. 

Allowance provided by employer 

Many employers in the Netherlands help with the costs of commuting. In some cases you receive a commuting allowance. Many employers pay some or all of the costs of a season ticket. Ask your boss if you have a right to this. 

Travel safely and in comfort 

Public transport in the Netherlands is generally a safe and comfortable way to travel. Trains and buses run at fixed times. You can find timetables in apps and on information boards at stations. Night buses run in many places, too. This means you can travel to work or go home at any time, day or night.
