Children in the Netherlands receive school reports and recommendations regarding secondary school. This information tells you how your child is doing in school.
Most primary schools provide school reports on each child three times every year. These reports explain how the child is doing at school. A child might get a grade for each subject, or the teacher might provide information in the form of words. This enables you to see what your child can do well and where your child needs extra help.
If your child is about to change school or start secondary school, the primary school will write an educational report (OKR). This report contains information about your child's test results, development, behaviour and absences. It also says if your child needs extra help. You can read the OKR and add your own comments.
At the end of primary school, every child is given a recommendation regarding secondary school. This is a recommendation from the primary school regarding the level of secondary school that is best suited to the child. The school looks at the child’s grades and test results and how the child works during lessons. This is done with the aim of ensuring children go to schools where they feel comfortable and are able to do well.
School reports tell you about your child’s progress and how you child is doing in school. They draw attention to your child’s strengths and where your child needs help. This assessment system helps parents and teachers work together to help children continue to do well in school.
Yes. The school must tell you what is in the OKR. You can read the report yourself and have your own comments added. This means you can make sure all the information in the OKR is correct and complete.
The recommendation regarding secondary school determines the level of secondary school that a child can go to. For this reason, the school looks closely at your child’s test results and development. The aim is to make sure your child goes to a school where your child enjoys learning and will grow.
