Are you looking for help with finding work in the Netherlands? An employment agency can help you find work at a company.
When you work through an employment agency, you usually work at a company on a short-term basis. You sign a contract with the employment agency, and not the company where you work. The employment agency pays your wages and sometimes also arranges your housing in the Netherlands. Many EU migrants start work this way.
Check that the employment agency is registered with the Chamber of Commerce. Also check that the agency has certification. You can also ask other employees if the employment agency always follows the rules. The employment agency must make clear arrangements for your working hours and wages. Always ask for a copy of your contract.
As a temporary agency worker, you have almost the same rights as someone with a regular job. You have a right to wages, breaks, working hours and holiday days. You can, however, be fired more quickly when starting work and you do not receive any wages if you do not work. You must never earn less than colleagues who do the same work.
An employment agency is a company that helps you find work. You work for the employment agency, but you work at another company.
As a temporary agency worker, you have a right to a salary, breaks, rest periods and holiday days. These terms of employment must be the same as those of permanent employees working for the same company. The employment agency must clearly inform you about this before you start working.
Yes. In the Netherlands we say they need to have approval. Starting from 2027, all employment agencies will need to have this type of approval. They will only get this if they follow all the rules. For example, they must have a VOG, comply with the agreements set out in the standards framework and pay a deposit.
From 2028, only approved employment agencies will be allowed to provide temporary agency workers. The company where you work (the user) will only be allowed to work with approved agencies. If it works with other agencies it could be fined by the Netherlands Labour Authority.
