A Certificate of Conduct (VOG) is proof that you have not committed any crimes that could be a problem for your work.
‘VOG’ is a Dutch abbreviation that refers to a Certificate of Conduct. A VOG is an official certificate that states you do not have a criminal record or that your past does not present a problem for a particular job. A VOG shows that you can be trusted. If you work with money, children or sensitive data, the employer usually asks for a VOG. A VOG is also required for some volunteer work.
You apply for a VOG at the municipality where you live or digitally, through the government. In order to do this, you need an invitation from your employer. The application usually costs money. Once your application has been approved, the VOG will be sent to you by post or digitally.
A VOG is required if you work in healthcare, education or childcare. If your work involves a great deal of responsibility, your employer might insist on a VOG. In some cases you need a VOG in order to start working.
