Temporary work

Temporary work in the Netherlands is work that you do for a short period of time, for example through an employment agency or under an on-call contract. 

What is temporary work? 

If you do temporary work, you are likely to have a contract for a short period time, for example a few weeks or several months. Many people from other countries do temporary work in the Netherlands as cleaners or in agriculture or logistics, for example. In many cases, you work only when you are called into work. 

Posting 

If you work in the Netherlands temporarily and are still employed by your foreign employer, we say you are on a posting. Information about posting and the relevant employment rules can be found online on postedworkers.nl. 

Your rights if you have temporary work 

If you are temporarily employed, you are still entitled to the minimum wage, holiday pay and breaks. After 12 months, your employer must offer you a fixed number of contracted hours every week. If you have any questions, you can contact your union or Het Juridisch Loket. 

Finding temporary work 

You can find temporary work through online job websites or UWV or directly at companies in your region, for example. You can also find temporary work through an employment agency.
