Learning Dutch helps you to become more involved in Dutch society. When you learn Dutch, you practise reading, writing, listening and speaking the language.
You can learn Dutch at a language school, at the library, with a language coach, or at your local Taalhuis, where volunteers provide free help with learning to read, write and speak Dutch.

Some employers offer free language classes, which might take place during working hours. Talk to your employer about this. In some cases, your employer can get a subsidy, such as the SLIM subsidy. Employment agencies can get subsidies under the Nederlands Taalbudget scheme. You can also practise speaking Dutch with colleagues for an hour every week by taking part in the 'Taalbuddy Op Het Werk' programme.

Everyone is different. It takes most people one to three years to learn enough Dutch to get a job and hold conversations. Practising every day helps a lot.
That is not a problem. You can get more help from a language coach or at your local Taalhuis, for example. Practise a little bit every day. Watch television with Dutch subtitles, and talk to people in Dutch. This will help you learn Dutch faster.
