The Netherlands has many traditions and national holidays, ranging from King's Day to Sinterklaas.
The list below shows the national holidays and other celebrations and commemorations in the Netherlands. Some national holidays have a fixed date. Other national holidays fall on a different day each year.
National holidays, celebrations and commemorations
National holidays, celebrations and commemorations are important traditions in the Netherlands. We celebrate New Year, Easter, King's Day and Christmas. During Dodenherdenking, we remember all the people who died in World War II and in wars since then. On 5 May we celebrate Liberation Day. Other celebrations include Sinterklaas and St. Martin's Day.
The law does not say that you always have a day off on national holidays. Whether you get time off depends on the arrangements made in your contract or CAO.
