Also pay attention to the languages that are spoken by the customer service team and the quality of the app. If you want to deposit cash, check that this is possible because it is often difficult with online banks. Choose a bank that suits your needs and budget.
With most banks, you need a Dutch address to open an account. Some online banks only accept a passport and BSN. Check first via chat or phone. If you are moving later, make sure that you tell the bank your new address immediately, so that your details are correct.
It usually takes one to five working days before your bank account is active. Then you can also use your bank card. With an online bank, your account is sometimes active the same day. You will receive the bank card by post later. Activate the card via the banking app or at an ATM.
With big banks, you usually make an appointment via the internet or by phone. Always take all your documents with you. With online banks, you arrange everything in the app. You will often do a video check of your passport there.
