Certification means that your home has been approved with a certificate so you be certain it is safe and in good order. 

What is certification for housing? 

Certification means that a house or other housing has been inspected and meets certain rules. For EU migrants, certification often involves certificates such as SNF or AKF. These certificates ensure that the house is safe, clean and properly habitable. This way, you can be sure you are staying in decent accommodation. Only housing that has been given this kind of certification can be offered in exchange for a deduction from your wages. 

Rent check by the Huurcommissie 

If you are paying too much rent or have any doubts, go to the website of the Huurcommissie, where you can see what the maximum rent is. You can only contact the Huurcommissie if you have a tenancy agreement. 

Reporting problems to your municipality 

If you do not have a tenancy agreement, or if you are having problems with your landlord, you can call your municipality free of charge and anonymously. You can tell the municipality about unsafe housing, or a house where too many people live, or bad behaviour by the landlord. Your municipality will tell you what you can do.
