Safe housing

If you have safe housing, you can live safely in your home in the Netherlands. Your home must be in good condition and safe.

Nuisance in your home 

If you are bothered by fire hazards, smells or noise or you have problems with your neighbours, always report this to your landlord. This might be your employment agency, employer or housing association. If there is an emergency, call 112 immediately. The police or fire brigade will then arrive quickly and help you. 

Problems with your landlord 

If you experience problems with your landlord, such as harassment or discrimination, go to the municipality where you live. The municipality can help and take action. You can also contact your municipality if your home poses a danger to your health. 

If something is broken 

If something in your home is broken, call the property manager or landlord. If the landlord does not fix it, contact the municipality. It can check whether the landlord is doing his job properly. 

Emergency information 

If you live in a house with an SNF certificate, there will an information card in the house. This card contains emergency phone numbers. The card will be in your language, or in Dutch or German. If there is no card in the house, call 112 in an emergency. 

Living in a special place 

If you live on a campsite, in a holiday park or in a hotel, special rules apply that are different for each municipality. Aks your municipality or a Work in NL information point about these rules.
