An address is the place where you live and where you receive your post.
A Dutch address has a street name, house number, postcode and place name. For example: Kerkstraat 10, 1234 AB Amsterdam. The postcode always consists of four numbers and two letters. Postal workers and parcel deliverers can easily find your home using your postcode and house number.
If you come to live in the Netherlands for more than four months, you have to tell the municipality your address. You do this at the city hall when you register or move house. If you are moving within the Netherlands, tell the municipality your address within five days. You can often do this online on the municipality's website or at the reception desk of the city hall.
If you will be staying in the Netherlands for less than four months, or you work here but live in another country, then you are registered in the Non-residents Records Database (RNI). If you move house, you have to change your address at an RNI desk or on MyRNI. There are 19 RNI desks in the Netherlands. The central government website provides details of where they are located.
A correct address is important for your post, healthcare, tax and work. Your employer, your health insurer and the government use this address to reach you. If they do not have your correct address, you could miss important letters, such as information about allowances or taxes.
Do not buy an address through websites or companies. This is forbidden. Some companies register many people at one address. This is called address fraud. You may have problems with benefits or allowances as a result. If you have become the victim of address fraud, call the Centraal Meldpunt Identiteitsfraude (CMI).
A Dutch address has a street name, house number (sometimes with a letter suffix), postcode and place name. For example: Kerkstraat 10, 1234 AB Amsterdam. The combination of postcode and house number makes it easy for postal workers and parcel deliverers to find your home.
If you are moving house, tell your current or new municipality your new address within five days. This can often be done online on the municipality's website or at the reception desk of the city hall. If you are staying in the Netherlands for less than four months, tell an RNI desk that you are moving house.
Yes, sometimes you have to tell other organisations your new address, for example your employer, bank or phone provider. That way, your post will be delivered to the right address and payments will not go wrong.
