In the Netherlands, you get childcare allowance from the government to help pay part of the cost of childcare.
Childcare allowance is a contribution from the government. You get this if your child attends childcare or out-of-school care (BSO) and you work or study. The childcare facility must be open frequently and be registered.
You satisfy the conditions if:
Childcare allowance covers some of the childcare costs. The amount depends on your income, the type of childcare and the number of children. The government reimburses up to 230 hours a month for each child. You receive the allowance around the 20th day of every month.
To claim childcare allowance, go to toeslagen.nl. Make sure you do this within three months after the first month of childcare for your child. You must also report any changes within four weeks.
Yes. You only get an allowance for the hours when the childcare centre is open and that are specified in your contract.
Yes. You can in some cases, for example if you work in the Netherlands but live in another country.
If your childcare hours change, your income changes or your child stops attending childcare, you must report this within four weeks.
