If you are starting out as a self-employed person in the Netherlands or you are starting your own business, you must first register with the Chamber of Commerce. You will then appear in the Trade Register.

As a self-employed person, you pay income tax on what you earn and VAT (value-added tax) on what you sell. You file tax returns with Belastingdienst every year. You might also pay additional taxes to the municipality, for example to deal with waste or the environment.
Cancel your registration with the Chamber of Commerce. Next, you need to file a final tax return. Your registration with Belastingdienst will then be cancelled.
